Meet Janice

I am a wife, a mom, a pet parent, a friend, a Nurse Practitioner, a music lover, a reader and so many more things.

I have been married to my husband Larry for 32 years. We have a wonderful son Nolan who lives in Tennessee who is making his way in the world as a young adult. I have my famous dog Zester Utensil and am also a pet parent to two super cool cats, Mr Bingley and Razzle Dazzle. I have friends all over the country, from top to bottom, side to side and corner to corner. I don’t see all of them as often as I wish I could but we are always there for each other.

I have been a nurse for almost as long as I’ve been married. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Restaurant Management and when I got married to my active-duty Air Force husband, moved to a small town in Oklahoma. They had a great nursing program there and that’s when it all started.

I spent 17 years following my husband from assignment to assignment, changing jobs every few years, but primarily working the adult ICU and ER worlds, with trauma and neuroscience being my favorites. Once my husband retired from the Air Force, we landed in Virginia and I ended up in Nurse Practitioner school.

That was 11 years ago and I have loved every minute of my job since then. I have built wonderful relationships with great people and have been honored to help them with their health care over the years. I cherish the bonds I have with my patients and often feel that I get more from them than they do from me. This is why I’m opening a new practice, so we can continue to grow together.

I practice open and empathetic medicine, we are a team, my patient and I. I never make decisions on my own, always choosing with the patient what’s best for them for where they are in their life. Most of my appointments are 30 minutes, which allows me time to listen to and to get to know my patients. I love to hear what’s happening in their lives, as it affects the decisions that we make. I am always authentic in all of my relationships and believe in complete honesty. If I don’t know how to help you, I will do my best to find out or to get you to someone who can.

Zester Utensil

Meet Zester

Zester Utensil is an adorable and well loved 17 pound rescue dog (we think long haired dachshund mixed with pomeranian). He is about 12 years old, but your guess is as good as ours. Zester was found on the streets of San Jose, California in 2021. He was turned in to animal control where a rescue promptly sent him to a foster home. This all happened during the month of the “kitchen utensil” name theme at the rescue. His foster mom opened her junk drawer and saw a lemon zester…and there you have it. Zester LOVES coming to work, seeing patients and getting treats. If someone doesn’t like dogs or is afraid, he’ll stay in my office, and well out of their way. Otherwise, plan on saying hi to Zester!

FAQs

An NP is also known as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse. She has completed an advanced degree, at least a Master’s, sometimes a Doctorate, and can practice the same medicine that a Physician can. She can diagnose, treat, manage and prescribe the same way a physician can.
Our niche as NPs is our time spent as nurses. Nurses are known to be caring, compassionate, and good teachers, with excellent attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills. In my case, I have 17 years at the bedside in the Intensive Care and Emergency Rooms at hospitals around the USA and overseas. That broad range of experience has given me the wisdom to be a strong family nurse practitioner. I value preventative care; yearly wellness exams are important to me and I really encourage them for my patients. I also believe in educating my patients, I love “hand outs” and teaching people how to care better for themselves.

Please call the office at 703-794-3741 or email info@speerprimarycare.com. Please be patient with us during the first few weeks as we are not fully staffed. We WILL get your message and we WILL respond.

As a solo provider practice, the schedule is challenging and we prefer to help you schedule exactly what kind and length of appointment that you need so please call our office directly.

I plan to continue to take all the insurance that we currently accept at WWC.

If you have transferred your care to Speer Primary Care by being sent and completing a Medical Records Request from your previous practice, please call our office and leave a detailed voicemail about what you need and where you’d like it sent.
If you have not yet transferred your care to Speer Primary Care, please request refills through your current provider, ie., Weaver Wellness Care, or through your pharmacy.

Janice asks for 24-48 hours to get your refills sent. If your refill request is for a controlled substance like adderall, and you haven’t had an appointment in the last 3 months, you’ll have to schedule one.

As a Nurse Practitioner, part of my job is educating patients. Inside that library is a wealth of information that you can read online or download and read. Please note: none of these resources are a substitute for a visit with me or an ER or an urgent care.

Please click the link on the website to complete the medical record request. We will fax it to your previous provider, and they will send us your records. If you were a patient of Janice Speer’s at Weaver Wellness Care, please follow the same instructions as above.
